The aspiring men who fought in the dream of the dawn of a new era and led the great achievement of the Meiji Restoration. Matsudaya Hotel is known as the place where they gathered to talk with each other.

SINCE 1860

Sakamoto Ryoma, one of the revolutionaries of the Meiji Restoration, also enjoyed the Ishinnoyu

It is a historical cultural property which is said to have been used for bathing at the time when the imperial loyalists of Choshu, Satsuma, and Tosa gathered for a secret meeting to overthrowing the Shogunate to restore the Imperial Rule.

IN 1867

Meeting place of the three great nobles of the Restoration, Saigo, Kido, and Okubo

This is the place of the event that changed Japan's history, where Saigo and Okubo of Satsuma clan, Kido and Ito of Choshu clan have come to Yamaguchi to discuss concrete plans on the Satcho Alliance, here at Matsudaya.

This wandering-style Japanese garden
has over 300 years of history.

This is an important cultural heritage site,
being the meeting place of Akamatsu, Saigo, Kido and Okubo as written by Ryotaro Shiba.

You can feed the carp swimming in the Japanese garden.
They are quite friendly and will come closer to you as soon as you feed them.
